The project New Reality of the Heritage Sites is being implemented under the third call for proposals of the IPA CBC Montenegro – Abania 2014–2020 Programme. Its implementation period is running from March 1, 2023, until December 26, 2025.
The total value of the project is 533.024,94 €
The main objective of the project is to contribute to the preservation and development of tourism, culture and heritage of Montenegro and Albania, through the improved, widely acknowledged and promoted cross border cultural heritage of Bar and Tropojë, and through the creation of modern tourism presentation.
The Old Town of Bar:
A hidden gem nestled beneath the majestic Rumija mountain massif on Montenegro’s coast, The Old Town of Bar is known as the “Medieval Pompeii of Europe”. This fascinating fortified archaeologic site is one of the largest in the world, offering a rich tapestry of history and culture that has been shaped over centuries.
The Old Town of Bar is not just a site of ancient ruins; it’s a place where history comes alive. From its origins in the Iron Age, through the Illyrian, Roman, Byzantine, Slavic, Venetian and Ottoman periods, the town has been a silent witness to countless civilizations and historic events. Every stone and structure tells a story of its rich past.
As a cultural treasure that continues to reveal its secrets, archaeological excavations have uncovered a wealth of artifacts – from prehistoric pottery to medieval relics – making it a must-visit destination for history enthusiasts and tourists alike.”
Tropojë, Museum Bajram Curri
Tropojë is a district in northeastern Albania, part of Kukës County. It was formed in 2015 by merging several former municipalities with Bajram Curri as its administrative center. The area has been inhabited since ancient times, as evidenced by archaeological finds such as castles and tumuli.
The region, rich in natural beauty, now attracts tourists particularly for its picturesque highlands and summer pastures. It represents a location with significant historical and cultural importance in the region.
The Municipality of Tropojë is a partner on the project and oversees the cultural heritage site of the “Bajram Curri” Museum.”
